Days After Cancer Surgery Woman Braves House Fire To Save Father-In-Law

Despite battling pancreatic cancer and recovering from surgery, Kathy Rodriguez managed to save her father-in-law from a house fire in Lafayette, Colorado, last week. The fire occurred just five days after her release from the hospital having undergone major surgery, adding to the challenges she faced.

Rodriguez was asleep on the couch when the fire broke out in the middle of the night. Reacting swiftly, she disregarded her own pain and rushed downstairs to wake her father-in-law, who suffers from dementia. Her husband, Robert, praised her bravery, saying she didn’t hesitate to respond and put her father-in-law’s safety before her own.

While the fire resulted in a total loss of their home and almost all of their belongings, the couple remains resilient. They’ve received an outpouring of support from their community, including a crowdfund that’s already raised over $15-thousand to help them rebuild their lives. One of the few items that survived the blaze was a thimble that Rodriguez had given her husband decades ago - one memento from a lifetime together to remind them of their bond and enduring love.
